Dragons
Journey Dateline: August 26, 2007
I love dragons! They are such majestic creatures full of vim, vigor and vitality!
Some dragons are portrayed as wise sages from eons past that have seen life begin and evolve into today. As I get older I better understand why Elders are considered wise - it is from living so long and seeing so much change happen in the world and lived to tell about how it used to be - some changes are for the better (like automatic washers & dryers - anyone who has used a wringer washer knows how dangerous those were to the unwary or hung up wet clothes on an outdoor clothesline in 20 below weather in the Midwest can relate to why I list washers and dryers) while some changes are for the worse (nuclear bombs).
Some dragons are portrayed as best friend and partner (like the Pern books by Anne McCaffrey) who lead helpful, useful lives adored by those who know and love them and those who only see them from afar as well.
Some dragons are depicted as evil killer rampaging beasts of strength used to dominate and subdue mankind if not to outright murder them. From my research - (Dragons info from Wikipedia) - the evil dragons appears to be more of a Western/European portrayal much of the time, though as always, there are exceptions - a lot seems to hinge on culture.
I have a book on my art bookshelf (among many Learn to Draw Dragons type books) named: Dragons Truth, Myth and Legend written by David Passes and illustrated by Wayne Anderson. In it at the very end is a lovely poem named Dragon Poem written by H. D. C. Peplar with a date noted of 1916 - I could not find it on the Net but Wikipedia had info on the author.
Today’s first featured art is Sometimes the Dragon Wins by Britt Martin
Note from Barbara: I love this painting! I love the title and I love the concept! I love the smirk on his face and in in his eyes too! The painting is very well done and I feel as if I could be walking along a path and come upon this fellow enjoying the knight meal and resting after his endeavors of obtaining his lunch or dinner meal for the moment. If I could paint creatures and still life objects - this is what type I would want to create!

Today’s second featured art is SorcererKing (Dragon) by Charles Ford
Note from Barbara: It is a lovely composition though with the bat type wings - it is a bit too much like a giant bat in my opinion - it is well done and quite striking. I really like the color harmony and it would harmonize with any decor in any room.

Today’s third featured art is Fire and blood (dragon) by Tomasz Jedruszek
Note from Barbara: I like the look in the girl’s eyes - it appears full of icy cold resolve and though I cannot see any actual fire - I know it is going to be spewing forth from the dragons in the sky any minute. These dragons too appear to have bat wings and the shadow dragon reminds me of giant bats. The sepia monotone appearing painting is very vibrant and would harmonize in any room with any decorating color scheme and gives it a somewhat surreal appearance to me that makes it even more interesting.

Today’s fourth featured art is Dragon Magic by Cora Healy
Note from Barbara: I love the combination of blues, greens and yellows with the witch, dragon and Celtic surrounding framework to make it appear to be in its own enclosed moment in time with both time and the world standing still as the magic happens.

Today’s fifth featured art is Celestial Dragon by Shoshanna Bauer
Note from Barbara: Being a watercolorist, I love watercolor paintings when they are gorgeous and well done like this lovely dragon painting. I love the warmth mixed with the cool blues and whites - the entire dragon leads me through the painting and warms my heart looking at it!
